Yohan Perera is a Video Producer and Creative Director with more than a decade of experience creating interviews, short-form documentaries, explainers, motion graphics, podcasts, and digital content.
Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Yohan moved to the United States in 2012 to pursue his passion for digital media at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, where he earned a B.S. in Digital Arts and Design. Since then, he has spent much of his career working in the international development and nonprofit sectors, helping organizations communicate complex ideas through compelling visual storytelling.
As Creative Director at TechChange, Yohan led creative projects for organizations including UNICEF, USAID, Catholic Relief Services, and the International Youth Foundation. His work has taken him internationally to produce and film interviews in places including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, and Mozambique. These experiences have given him a particular appreciation for the power of interviews and visual storytelling to make complex subjects accessible and meaningful.
Yohan's work has since expanded into live production and digital audience engagement. At The District Church in Washington, DC, he designed and built a portable, setup-and-teardown-friendly livestream system from the ground up, developing the technical workflow and training a volunteer team to operate it. He also leads video production for the church's digital platforms, producing sermon content, short-form videos, campaign stories, and other digital media.
Yohan has also helped develop The District Church's podcasting efforts, producing a 10-episode pilot podcast from concept through production. This experience expanded his work beyond video into the broader world of audio storytelling and podcast production.
One of his recent projects has been RESTORE, a $1.6 million capital campaign supporting the restoration of the historic National Baptist Memorial Church building. Yohan produced the campaign's video content, overseeing creative direction, production, on-site filming, and external editors to create stories designed to help the congregation understand the project and inspire them to participate financially.
Across his work, Yohan enjoys finding creative ways to help people understand something they may not otherwise understand and care about something they may not otherwise notice. Whether interviewing a subject-matter expert, filming stories internationally, producing a campaign video, creating a podcast, or building a livestream system, Yohan brings together storytelling, technical production, and visual design to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
Yohan lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife, Chasity, and their son.
